LG orders night curfew in 8 distts, new micro containment zones declared

Jammu: After the Jammu and Kashmir recorded over 800 new cases for the second consecutive day, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha order imposition of night curfew in the eight districts. Moreover, witnessing spurt in the cases, the district Jammu administration canceled permission issued for fairs as well exhibition and declared Gandhi Memorial College, Jammu as micro containment zones.

The night curfew will come into effect from Friday, the office of the Lt governor said.

"Directed the divisional administration to impose corona curfew from 10 pm to 6 am in the urban areas of 8 districts affected by the recent COVID spike," it tweeted.

These districts are Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag and Kupwara, it said.

The curfew will be in force in the municipal limits of the urban local bodies of these districts. Reasi district will be under close observation for any possible spikes in cases, it added

Keeping in view spurt in cases, authorities in district Jammu announced cancellation of all permissions for fairs and exhibitions .
Jammu District Magistrate Anshul Garg said any violation of the order would invite punitive action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act.
It has been made to appear to me, in view of the situation emerging due to COVID-19 in district Jammu, that there is sufficient ground for proceeding under Section 144 of CrPC for immediate prevention or speedy remedy is desirable to prevent danger to human life, health or safety .I do hereby order that all the permissions issued for holding exhibitions and fairs shall be deemed to have been expired forthwith, Garg said.
He directed the organisers of such exhibitions to wind up their operations within 24 hours, failing which action under the rules would be taken.
Garg asked the subdivisional magistrates to submit a compliance report in this regard.

Meanwhile, he also declared area in and around GGM, Science College, Canal Road, falling under Police Station Nowabad and area in and around Sanskrit University, Kanger Morh, Bhalwal, falling under Police Station Gharota, as micro containment zones.
As per an order issued in this regard, these areas shall be under strict lock down and tight perimeter control, except for essential needs. There shall be no movement, whatsoever, in and out of the Micro Containment zone.
The union territory also recorded the highest single-day spike this year as 835 new coronavirus cases took the tally to 1,35,662
Another fatality from the pathogen took the toll to 2,019. There are 5,623 active cases, while 1,28,020 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.
The fresh 835 cases include 162 travellers. A total of 280 cases were from the Jammu division and 555 from Kashmir, they said.
The Union territory had less than 1,000 active cases on March 15, while the number of fresh cases crossed the three-digit mark from March 16.
Srinagar district recorded the highest 349 cases, including 61 travellers, followed by 148 in Jammu and 74 in Baramulla district.

With 246 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 128,020 which is 94.37 percent of the total cases.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 349 from Srinagar, 74 from Baramulla, 24 from Budgam, 08 from Pulwama, 31 from Kupwara, 22 from Anantnag, 18 from Bandipora, 7 from Ganderbal, 18 from Kulgam and 04 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 347 from Jammu division include 148 from Jammu, 35 from Udhampur, 09 from Rajouri, 04 from Doda, 20 from Kathua, 08 from Samba, 04 from Kishtwar, 03 from Poonch, 02 from Ramban and 47 from Reasi," officials disclosed.

As per officials figures, 30,758 positive cases including 477 deaths and 28,254 recoveries are from Srinagar, 9,436 including 182 deaths and 8,553 recoveries are from Baramulla, 8,517 including 8,040 recoveries and 122 deaths are from Budgam, 6,058 including 5,837 recoveries and 92 deaths are from Pulwama, 5,937 including 97 deaths and 5,696 recoveries are from Kupwara, 5,305 including 5,073 recoveries and 96 deaths are from Anantnag, 4,859 cases including 4,687 and 63 deaths are from Bandipora, 4,780 including 4,661 recoveries and 49 deaths are from Ganderbal, 2,988 including 2,719 recoveries and 56 deaths are from Kulgam and 2,691 including 2,600 recoveries and 40 deaths are from Shopian.

In Jammu division, 26,678 including 25,277 recoveries and 386 deaths are from Jammu district, 4,543 including 4,288 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Udhampur, 3,937 including 3,831 recoveries and 56 deaths are from Rajouri, 3,482 including 3,392 recoveries and 64 deaths are from Doda, 3,464 including 3,296 recoveries and 53 deaths are from Kathua, 2,908 including 2,808 recoveries and 41 deaths are from Samba, 2,770 including 2,734 recoveries and 22 deaths are from Kishtwar, 2,570 including 2,511 recoveries and 26 deaths are from Poonch, 2,171 including 2,119 recoveries and 23 deaths are from Ramban and 1,810 including 1,644 recoveries and 16 deaths are from Reasi.

As per the daily information bulletin 1,575,505 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 59,857 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 5,623 persons are in isolation.

According to the bulletin, 1,383,842 persons have completed surveillance period and 124,174 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 6,373,912 samples are available. Out of 6,373,912 the number of samples tested negative stands at 6,238,250 while as 135,662 have tested positive, among them 5,623 persons are active, 128,020 persons have recovered and 2,019 persons have died.
