Jammu: In a positive development in north Kashmir, there has been a significant decline in the incidents of stone-pelting and youth picking up guns, the Indian Army said on Friday.
Major General HS Sahi, GOC, Kilo Force (North Kashmir) has said that there has been only a single case of local youth picking up guns in the region. He surrendered within five days.
"In 2021, there has been only one case of a local youth picking up the guns, he surrendered within five days. Our engagement with youth and all sections of the society has ensured that recruitment is down in North Kashmir," ANI quoted Major General HS Sahi as saying.
"The overall situation in north Kashmir is peaceful and stable. There are no takers for stone pelting, bandhs etc. The common man is very much for peace and stability in the valley," he added.
Earlier this month, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has said his focus is on providing job opportunities to 80 per cent of the young population within the next five years.
“My goal is to reach out and engage about 80 percent of the young population of Jammu and Kashmir within the next five years and make it possible for them to be an engine of growth for the overall socio-economic transformation of the UT,” he said.
“I would like to see each child of J&K prosper into a mature, successful and good human being. The potential of the youth is harnessed in a way that everyone contributes towards the prosperity of the UT. Together we will achieve the desired goal”, he added.
