5-Day Training of Plant Doctors concludes

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 26: The Five Day long Training Programme of Plant Doctors concluded today here at Baba Jitto Kisan Kendra Jammu with the distribution of Certificates among the 21 Trainees by Director Law Enforcement J&K, B. K. Chandan.
The training programme was organized by Department of Agriculture Jammu in collaboration with Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI) under Plantwise Programme from Feb 22 to Feb 26, 2021.
Speaking on the occasion, B. K. Chandan underlined the role of E Plant Clinics towards mitigating the insect pests, disease and deficiency problems of various agricultural crops. He stressed on to educate the farmers regarding adverse effects of indiscriminate use of pesticides and their residual effect. Further, he advised the Plant Doctors to keep them technically updated and to work with professional approach for uplifting the financial status of farmers.
Earlier, while presenting the preview of Plantwise Progamme, Dr Vinod Pandit, Programme Leader, CABI, South Asia, highlighted that Plant Doctors work on different aspects of the pest management including data collection, online validation and analysis. CABI is working among the small and marginal farmers in the 40 member countries including India for the food security on the principal “To Loose Less & Feed More’’ he added.
Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Jammu, Shahid Iqbal Sheikh presented overview of the different activities being undertaken by 24 existing Plant Clinics in Five districts of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri and Udhampur. It was given out that 21 new trained Plant Doctors will extend the services of E Plant Clinics in five uncovered districts of Jammu Division including Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi.
Sushil Kumar, Assistant Soil Chemist Rajouri and Arun Khajuria i/c Plant Health Clinic Jammu participated as Resource Persons for the conduct of weeklong Brain Storming Training sessions covering training on Module I (Diagnosis) and Module II (Recommendations).The interaction and feedback, Plant Doctor’s self assessment, problem diagnosis, live sample identification etc were also the part of training programme.
