No fresh traffic, only stranded vehicles to ply from Jammu to Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 25: Only stranded vehicles will be allowed on Monday to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, a traffic police official said on Monday.
He said no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction on the highway, he told TNN.
Meanwhile, the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with Shopian in south Kashmir and Anantnag-Sampthan-Kishtwar road remained closed since last week of December last year due to accumulation of snow and slippery conditions.
The national highway, the only road linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir, has been closed since January Ist for winter months, he said.
He said the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was open for traffic. However, only stranded vehicles, including those carrying passengers and trucks loaded with essentials, will be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar today. Local traffic will also be allowed between Ramban and Banihal, he said, adding that no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
Official said that security forces are also advised not to ply against traffic advisory in view of the traffic congestion on the highway and narrowness of Bailey bridge at Kela Morh, where the main concrete bridge was damaged after retaining wall was collapsed on January 10. The baily bridge was installed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said it will take about two weeks to repair the damage. Now the NHAI has announced to open the bridge on January 29 for traffic again.
Security forces have been asked to ply from Jammu to Srinagar, he said.
