ATM GUARD MURDER CASE

JAMMU: The arrest of a landlord in the sensational murder case of ATM guard in Nanak Nagar area of Jammu has put those property owners on alert who have lent their houses and other establishments on rent without tenant verification.
The swift action of police in the murder of ATM guard has won praise of Jammuites but the arrest of landlord of one of the murderers for not obeying the order of District Magistrate, making it mandatory for all landlords to ensure police verification of their tenants, has unnerved number of city landlords who have till date lingered on this significant process of ‘knowing well’ the identity and record of their tenants and informing police about the same.
Pleading anonymity, a landlord in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu told The NEWSNOW that surely this case has opened up his eyes and the very first thing he will do the next day is initiating the process of verification of his tenants which he said hail from outside the J&K UT. Another landlord, an old widow of the same locality from where the police has apprehended the property owner for keeping in dark the police department with regard to information of his tenant from Kashmir province, requesting The NEWSNOW not to disclose her identity said, “I was not aware of such an order and since this is first of its kind case in Jammu where seemingly police has picked up a property owner for ignoring this significant government order, surely this will act as a lesson to all especially those who have rented their accommodations to unknowns. Taking into account the sensitivity of J&K, such an exercise of getting information about tenants is a good step and I appreciate government for providing such a facility through police department”. She also gave a nod to go for police verification of her tenants as soon as she gets time from her daily chores. Although, the death of ATM Guard in the incident is quite unfortunate but the way police has taken up investigation especially this angle of nabbing the landlord for taking up DM’s order lightly will inspire people of temple city to shun the lethargy and go for verifications of their tenants.
It is pertinent to mention that
Jaswant Singh, a resident of Nanak Nagar in Jammu, was arrested on Sunday after a man living in his house on the rent was found involved in a murder three days ago and it came to the fore that he had not informed the police about his tenant.
Mohammad Kaif Lone and Waqas Bashir Lone, both natives of Bandipora district in north Kashmir, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of an ATM guard, Raju Sharma, in Nanak Nagar area of Jammu on January 21.
Waqas Bashir Lone was arrested from the house of Jaswant Singh where he had been living on rent.
A case was registered against Jaswant Singh for hiding details of his tenant and was subsequently arrested.
