Life returns to normal in Srinagar civil lines

Srinagar, Jan 22: Life returned to normal on Friday with all shops and business establishments functioning normally after remaining shut on Thursday on the 31st anniversary of “Gaw Kadal Massacre” as on this day in 1990 over 50 persons were killed in alleged security force firing when they were coming out from a mosque.

Shops and business establishments reopened this morning in the civil lines, including historic Lal Chowk, , the nerve centre of the city and other major business hubs, including Gantaghar, Court road, Maisuma, Koker Bazar, Budshah Chowk, Residency and Moulana Azad roads, Amira Kadal, Gaw Kadal, Red Cross road, Exchange road.

Traffic was also plying normally on all routes in the city.

The firing incident took place two days after the Centre appointed Jagmohan as the Governor for the second time in a bid to control massive protests in the Kashmir valley, demanding separation from the country.
