J&K sets up 42-member exports promotion board, LG heads body

Jammu: In a bid to earmark and manage the areas to be declared as export promotion hubs and finalize the export policy/strategy formulated by the Apex-level Export Promotion Committee in June 2020, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday constituted Export Promotion Board.
The aforesaid Board headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will also decide matters related to amendment of government regulations to facilitate ease of doing business and take steps to rope in all principle stakeholders connected with the identified export sectors to bring in vibrancy and inspire those intended to be the partners in the massive development trail brought in the UT by the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This significant initiative of the government is seen as measure to achieve desired goals in enhancing export potential of the UT and give impetus to business activity which till date is struggling to come out of infancy due to phlegmatic approach of successive dispensations in J&K, read an order.
Administrative Secretary Industries and Commerce Department, Ex-officio Export Commissioner, J&K shall be the Member Secretary”, the order reads further.
Besides, Presidents of Chambers of Commerce and Industries of both Kashmir and Jammu, President Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir, Chairman Walnut Exporters Association, President Shawls Exporters Association, representation of CII’s Jammu Chapter, President PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry J&K Chapter, any other representative from trade and industry or handicrafts and handloom sector or any eminent exporter as may be co-opted by the Chairman of the aforesaid Committee shall act as co-opted members.
The government order issued in this regard reads, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of Export Promotion Board for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir headed by Lieutenant Governor, J&K as its Chairman while Chief Secretary, J&K, Advisors to Lieutenant Governor, Administrative Secretary, Finance Department, Administrative Secretary, Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, Administrative Secretary, Horticulture Department, Administrative Secretary, Department of Mining, Administrative Secretary, Floriculture Department, Vice Chancellors SKUAST Jammu/Kashmir, Director General, Foreign Trade (DGFT), Government of India, Divisional Commissioners, Jammu/Kashmir, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles Government of India, Director General, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts(EPCH), Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Executive Director, Carpet Export Promotion Council, representative of Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, Managing Director, J&K Trade Promotion Organization, Excise Commissioner, J&K, Commissioner, State Taxes Department, J&K, Managing Director, J&K Handloom Handicrafts Development Corporation, Member Director, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Srinagar Airport, Directors of Industries & Commerce Jammu/Kashmir, Director, Geology & Mining, Directors of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu/Kashmir, Directors, Agriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Directors, Horticulture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director, Floriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Managing Director, J&K SIDCO, Managing Director, Jammu & Kashmir Industries Limited and Secretary/ CEO Khadi and Village Industries Board as its members”.
