ATAL’s FDP on Tribology in Design and Manufacturing successfully conducted at IIT Jammu

Jammu: The ATAL Faculty Development Programme was inaugurated on November 23rdby the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal. This five-day long ATAL FDP was successfully concluded today at IIT Jammu. Organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the programme attracted more than 200 participants from around the country and proved to be of excellent help to participants and organizers alike.
The distinguished speakers, Prof. Satish C. Sharma from IIT Roorkee, Dr. R. K. Pandey and Dr. Deepak Kumar from IIT Delhi and Dr. G.D. Thakre from CSIR-IIP Dehradun enlightened the participants with their in-depth knowledge of the domain. They extensively covered several aspects of Tribology including but not limited to, tribological aspects of bearings, gears, piston rings, surface coating, surface texturing, industrial maintenance, micro-manufacturing etc.
Dr. Manoj S. Gaur, the institute’s director said, “ATAL FDPs are playing a great role in upskilling the faculty which will further ease the implementation of the New Education Policy. These FDPs also help the faculty members in their areas of Research and Development which is of utmost importance in the classroom. At IIT Jammu, we believe that FDPs are helpful and we would make constant and conscious efforts to serve the mission of ATAL Academy.”
Coordinator of the five-day programme, Dr. Arvind Rajput was quoted saying, “Tribology covers the domains of friction, wear and lubrication. Its role seems inevitable in the design and manufacturing of mechanical components which can contribute to the efforts of building an AATMNIRBHAR BHARAT. Best practices in the field of Tribology promote sustainability as they result in saving of materials and optimized use of energy which can be a major contributor to India’s GDP.”
