Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Monday shot dead a Pakistani intruder and foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Samba district as well as Border Action Team's (BAT) action close to the fence at the Machil sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said that the body is lying on the zero line and has not been retrieved yet.
The officials said the incident took place in the Check Faqeera border outpost area when BSF personnel noticed some suspicious movement of a person who was trying to sneak into the Indian side from Pakistan.
The intruder was challenged but he paid no heed and was subsequently shot dead, they said, adding an operation is on to retrieve the body of the deceased.
Moreover, the BSF claimed to have foiled Pakistan's Border Action Team's (BAT) action close to the fence at the Machil sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Border Security Forces (BSF) north Kashmir, R Mathur Krishna said that the attempt of Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) was completely foiled by the BSF with the timely action close to the fence and the searches launched have been called off.
He said that a suspicious movement was observed close to the line of control (LoC) that came under the timely active fire of BSF deployed there.
"The attempt was made by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) and it stands completely foiled by the BSF,” he said.
He said that due to bad and inclement weather conditions in the area they (BAT) have gone back and since the movement was initially detected by BSF that was interrupted timely.
To a question about the searches in the suspected area, the DIG said that the search operation has concluded and nothing was found.
It may be recalled that the BSF sentry on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday observed suspicious movement at the Tower Post in Machil sector and fired some gunshots that reported late retaliation.
Notably, in the ensuing month on November 08, joint security forces claimed to have foiled a major infiltration bid in the machil sector that ended with the killing of three infiltrators and four soldiers, an officer and a BSF trooper.
The incidents comes a day after the BSF detected a 150-metre-long underground tunnel suspected to be used by four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists for infiltration from Pakistan recently.
All the four terrorists were killed in a gunfight when a Kashmir-bound truck, in which they were travelling, was stopped for checking at Ban toll plaza on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Thursday.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition including 11 A K assault rifles, three pistols, 29 grenades and six UBGL grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists, who, according to police, had come to execute a big plan to disrupt District Development Council polls in the UT, slated to be held in eight phases beginning November 28.
