Bike rally on a new adventure circuit of Jammu region

JAMMU: For those seeking rendezvous with adventure in Jammu region, Directorate of Tourism Jammu is organizing a bike rally covering famous destinations like Chenani, Sudh Mahadev, Dudu, Basantgarh, Shivgali, Ramnagar, Surinsar and Mansar, from 27th to 29th November, 2020.

“Taking baby steps towards normalcy after lockdown hiatus, we are planning a bike rally on the route viz Jammu-Udhampur-Chenani-Sudh Mahadev-Latti-Dudu-Basantgarh-Shivgali-Kulwanta-Ramnagar-Mansar-Surinsar-Jammu, from 27th to 29th November, 2020. We have invited applications from interested bikers and biking clubs for the same,” says Anil Kumar Chandail, KAS, Dy Director Tourism (Publicity) Jammu.

It has been learned that the bikers are scheduled to cover Jammu-Udhampur-Chenani-Sudh Mahadev on the first day, which is about 120 kms. The participants can visit renowned Gauri Kund and Mantalai situated close to Sudh Mahadev.

On the second day, they will witness mesmerizing meadows enroute Latti-Dudu-Basantgarh, which is again about 120 kms. Shivgali-Kulwanta-Ramnagar-Mansar-Surinsar-Jammu stretch, which is somewhat longer, about 160 kms, will be covered on the third day.

The much awaited biking event requires the participants to meet certain eligibility criteria – physical fitness (supported by a medical fitness certificate from Chief Medical Officer or a registered medical practitioner), must have attained the age of 18 years, has valid driving license (supported by a copy of DL), having good moral character, etc.

“Vehicle insurance, individual insurance and third party insurance shall be done by the participant, while the Directorate of Tourism Jammu shall look after their boarding/lodging and fuel support,” the official invite accessed by The News Now reads.

Also, it mentions that the authorities will accept application up to 4:00 PM, 24th November, and that the preference shall be given to those applicants who have participated in bike rallies earlier.

Preeti Chaudhary, member of the Biker Brotherhood Motorcycle Club India, says, “The rally features remote high-altitude areas of Jammu region, which when visited will not only showcase their tourism potential, but also involve locals in the process, create opportunities for revenue generation. Most importantly, invite government attention for development.”

She wishes to see more of female bikers participating in this event.

Jugraj Singh Ryaan, Founder President of Biker Brotherhood Motorcycle Club India, says, “If done in right way, these events can surely create a ripple effect. These are good opportunities to attract bikers who do blogging, vlogging as well, which helps in wide promotion. Then, people will come to know about unexplored places during the event.

He adds, “It is more about the promotion of the event. When the teaser of Heritage Bike Rally 2019 was shared on social media handles of Jammu Tourism, it garnered more than one lakh views.”

Rahul Gupta, Jammu-based You tuber and biker, says, “It is quite short notice invitation, for both the bikers and tourism department. The condition of road in some stretches is worrisome, especially in case of rainfall/snowfall.”

However, he adds, the rally route has beautiful destinations to explore, for which the duration of the event be increased.
