Pak shells forward areas, soldier martyred, women injured in Rajouri, Poonch

Jammu: An Army soldier attained martyrdom while two women suffered injuries on Saturday as Pakistan Army shelled forward areas and targeted civilians close to the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
A soldier attained martyrdom as Pakistani Army opened fire on forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district on Saturday morning.
The unprovoked firing from across the border in Lam area of Nowshera sector took place around 0100 hours, resulting in critical injuries to a Havaldar, who died later, defence spokesman here said.
The Indian Army retaliated befittingly to silence the Pakistani guns, and cross-border firing between the two sides continued for quite some time, they added.
The spokesman said that Pak violated ceasefire targeting civilians in Poonch at about 1815 hours by initiating unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with Small Arms and intense shelling with Mortars along LoC in Degwar, Malti and Dallan areas.
“Pak targeted civil areas causing injuries to innocent civilians. Army retaliates befittingly,” he said.
Earlier, the spokesman said that Pakistan violated ceasefire in Nowshera Sector at about 1800 hours when Pak initiated unprovoked ceasefire by firing along LoC in Nowshera Sector of District Rajouri.
Meanwhile two women were injured in cross-border firing in Poonch district.
An official said that Pakistan violated the ceasefire at 0715 pm by firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Dallan sector of Poonch.
He said two women were in injured in ceasefire violation adding that they were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The injured women were identified as Mansha Bi and Sakeena Bi, both residents of Bagyaldara.
