TIGER DIVISION CELEBRATED ‘74TH INFANTRY DAY’

JAMMU: To honor the supreme sacrifice of the Infantry in fighting the Pakistani raiders in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, Tiger Division celebrated 74th Infantry Day, with Traditional solemnity.

Maj Gen Vijay Nair, GOC Tiger Division, laid Wreath at the 'Tiger War Memorial'. Serving officers, all ranks of the ‘Tiger Division’ and Veterans attended the ceremony. Similar events organized in respective Brigade Headquarters keeping COVID-19 protocols in mind.

October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day, as it was on this day an Infantry company of the First Battalion of Sikh Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals who were supported by Pakistan Army. The gallant action of these Infantry soldiers reversed the tide of the battle and saved the city from falling into enemy hands. It immensely contributed towards integrating Kashmir, as part of independent lndia.
