COVID-19: India reports lowest 24-hrs rise in three months

New Delhi, Oct 27: India on Tuesday reported single day spike of 36,470 infections of COVID-19, a figure less than 40k being reported after over three months, pushing the country caseload to 79,46,429 lakh.

The death toll soared to 1,19,502 with 488 fresh fatalities.

According to Union Health Ministry, the active cases saw a drop of 27,860 and currently stood at 6,25,857 which accounted for 7.88 per cent of the total caseload.

For nearly a month the COVID-19 cases have been witnessing a downward trend, and this is the fifth consecutive day when the number of active cases has been below the 7,00,000-mark in the country.

Maharashtra witnessed 84 of the day's fatalities, Uttar Pradesh (59), Chhattisgarh (43), Karnataka (42), Delhi (54), Tamil Nadu (32) and Uttarakhand (22).

Frontline medics saved 63,842 more lives in the past 24 hours, taking the total recovery count to 72,01,070, which is 90.62 per cent of the caseload. The fatality rate stood at 1.51 per cent.

As per Indian Council of Medical Research, 9,58,116 samples were tested on Monday, taking to 10,44,20,894 the total.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Covid-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11 and at present, more than 43.7 million people have been infected all over the planet, with over 1.16 million fatalities.

The Union Health Ministry has maintained that despite the decline in new cases, the policies of prevention, testing, tracking, treating and containment will continue. The health ministry has warned people to avoid congregations within families during the festival period and advocated use of masks.
