Police arrest drug peddler, organise awareness program in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 25: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a drug peddler and held a drug awareness programme in the Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said.

He said acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A Police party intercepted one person identified as Tanveer Ahmad Lolo resident of Dogripora Awantipora near Dattpora in Pulwama on Saturday. During checking, police recovered 10 Kgs of charas powder from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora.

Accordingly, a case FIR No.151/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

'Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace'.

The Spokesman said in order to provide insight to the general public about the seriousness of drug addiction, Kupwara police organised a drug awareness programme at District Police Lines (DPL) Kupwara.

Around 200 students from various schools of Kupwara participated in the programme, he said, adding that on the occasion, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Kupwara Ifroz Ahmad , Deputy SP headquarters Kupwara, prominent speakers and doctors including Dr Fayaz Ahmad, Dr Saif and Lawyer Miss Nadia briefed the students about the drug addiction & its consequences.

Mr Ahmad spoke about drug addiction and highlighted it's scenario in Kashmir. He also spoke about preventive measures and the role of J&K Police in the prevention of drug menace.

At the end of the programme, an hour-long question answer session was also held, the spokesman said, adding that the students have hailed Kupwara Police for organizing it and have hoped that such programmes shall be organized in future also.
