Govt nods to WB aided projects of Rs 347 cr to improve health care

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has accorded sanction of implementation of World Bank assisted project for strengthening of Health Care institutions as a part of the Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project JTFRP.
The development comes days after the World Bank (WB) approved 367.48 Crores (approximately US$ 50 million) fund for strengthening the healthcare system in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
In this regard, an order was issued by Atul Dullo, Financial Commissioner Health & Medical Education Department, which read, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the implementation of the World Bank assisted project for strengthening of Health Care Institutions as a part of strictly adhering to the World Bank guidelines and Government Norms for procurement”.
As per the reports, the approval for the implementation was done last month; the Administrative Council (AC) had given its nod to implementation of the World Bank assisted project for strengthening of healthcare institutions.
The Administrative Council which had met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor (LG), Manoj Sinha approved the project which will help to provide equipment for intensive care units, operation theatres, laboratories, and power back up systems at the District level, manifold system, and gas pipelines at Sud District Hospital/CHC level, besides critical care ambulances.
"A comprehensive proposal was formulated amounting to Rs 367.48 crore (approximately US$ 50 million) and submitted for funding from the World Bank," Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, J&K, Atal Dulloo had said last week.
As per the reports, the fund approved by the World Bank is to be utilized for up-gradation of various health care institutions across Jammu and Kashmir also in the newly constructed medical colleges in Union Territory.
Reports further said that over more than 100 Crore rupees will be spent to strengthen the operation theaters across the government hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir which include that of newly constructed Government Medical Colleges.
While around 20 Crore will be utilized for procuring various health equipment which includes that of ECG, dialysis machines, X-rays, and other equipment. Whereas more than 80 Crore rupees will be utilized for the strengthening of laboratory services in all the district hospitals and five associated hospitals of new GMCs.
Further, more than 10 Crore will be utilized for power backups systems in district and sub-district hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, more than 20 Crore is to be funded on procuring more than 60 critical care ambulances.
