Ultra slain in Shopian encounter
JAMMU: In a barbaric incident, an Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir was shot dead by militants while he was on way to his home after offering prayers.
Elsewhere, in two separate incidents, security forces killed a militant while as a CRPF person was injured in a militant attack.
Militants shot dead a police officer while he was returning home after offering prayers at a mosque in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said. The incident took place in Bijbehara area of the district, a police official said.
Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat was rushed to Bijbehara sub-district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, he said. Bhat was presently posted at Police Training Centre in Lethpora in Pulwama district.
In the neighbouring Shopian, security forces killed a militant after an encounter. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Melhura in Zainapora this evening following information about presence of militants. The search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at security forces, a police official said.
In Pulwama, CRPF man was injured in a militant attack on security forces party. The ultras opened fire on a joint naka party of police and CRPF at Gangoo in Pulwama district, a police official said.
The injured CRPF person has been hospitalised.
