Rajnath to e-inaugurate 43 strategic bridges today, 17 for J&K, Ladakh

JAMMU: Almost two months later, twin Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will get 17 new bridges of strategic importance tomorrow to be e-inaugurated by the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh through video conference.
The bridges are constructed by the Border Road Organisations.
Defence sources here said that in total 43 bridges will be e-inaugurated by the Union Defence Minister in as many as seven States and the Union Territories, adding, “these bridges are of strategic importance and have been constructed not only as a part of development of border belts by providing better road connectivity, but also keeping the prevailing relations with our neighbours in mind.”
Earlier in July, Singh inaugurated six strategic bridges build by the Border Road Organisation in Jammu and Kashmir through video conferencing, build at a cost of Rs 43 crore.
Singh had said that these bridges would facilitate the movement of the Armed Forces in strategically important sectors and also contribute towards the overall economic growth of remote border areas.
Sources however, said that the bridges have been constructed close to the proximity of the bordering areas along the Line of Control and the International Border, adding, “these projects are the lifelines in far-flung areas close to the border.”
The government is regularly monitoring the progress of all BRO projects and adequate funds are being given for their timely execution, they added.
However, sources said that in Jammu and Kashmir, bridges are coming up at Uri - Salamabad - Kaman Post, Bandipur-Gurez, Pul Doda-Bhaderwah, Rajpura- Madwal-Pangadaur-Phulpur Causeway, Babban, Bhatha, Parole - Korepannu – Rajpura, Saniyal, Chinota-Manna Nallah and Bishnah-Kojipur-Kaulpur.
They further said that besides J&K and Ladakh, the Defence Minister will e-inaugurate two bridges in Himachal Pradesh, four in Punjab, eight each in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh and four in Sikkim.
He will also lay the Foundation Stone of Nechiphu Tunnel on road to Tawang via video conference, sources added.
The Border Roads Organisation has acquired a leading role in the arena of infrastructure development in the most treacherous terrains and climatically harsh regions of the world.
During Peace, it develops and maintains the Operational Road Infrastructure of General Staff (GS) in the Border Areas, contribute to the Socio-Economic Development of the Border States.
Whereas during War, it develop and maintains roads to keep Line of Control through in original sectors and re-deployed sectors, execute Additional Tasks as laid down by the Govt Contributing to the War Effort, entrusted for construction of Roads, Bridges, Tunnels, Causeways, Helipads and Airfields.
The BRO includes 18 projects, which are divided into Task Forces, Road Construction Companies (RCCs), Bridge Construction Companies (BCCs), Drain Maintenance Companies (DMCs), and Platoons. The organisation also includes base workshops, store divisions, training and recruitment centers, and other staff.
