Death toll mounts to 10 in Thane's building collapse incident

Thane, Sep 21: Death toll mounted to 10 after two more bodies were pulled out of the debris of building collapsed in Bhiwandi area of this Maharashtra district on Monday morning, district authorities said.

Meanwhile, 11 people, including a 4-year-old Ubed Qureshi, have been rescued, while many more are feared to be trapped in the debris.

The Chief of the RDMC of the TMC Santosh Kadam said the ground plus three-storied building situated at Patel compound of Narpoli near the Dhamankar Naka collapsed around 0340 hrs, when the occupants were fast asleep.

He further said that the 43-year-old Jilhani building was not in the list of the dangerous buildings of the BNMC. The building had a total of 40 flats and around 150 persons lived in the building.

The deceased have been identified as Zyber Qureshi (30), Faiza Qureshi (5), Aiysa Qureshi (7), Babbu (27), Fatma Zuber Babbu (2), Fatma Zuber Qureshi (8), Uzeb Zuber (6), Aska Abid Ansari (14), Ansari Danish Alid (12), and Siraj Ahmed Shaikh (28).

The injured have been admitted to the local hospitals here, the officials added.
