1686 positive across J&K, tally over 54k; 13 more die, toll 379

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The Coronavirus continued its upward movement on Sunday, with Jammu and Kashmir reporting 1686 Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union Territory to 54,096, even as thirteen more patients including seven from Jammu region and 6 from Valley died of the disease, taking the toll to 879.
It was for the fifth time in as many days that the number of fresh COVID-19 cases crossed the 1500-mark in a 24-hour period, with Jammu district leading the chart with 405 new cases.
Of the fresh cases, 875 were reported in Jammu region and 811 in Kashmir division while as many as 452 patients were discharged from the hospitals following their treatment—146 in Jammu and 302 in Kashmir. With this the recoveries settled at 35737, 66.06% of the total cases which was over 78 percent few days ago.
The actives positive cases now stand at 17481, including 9298 from Jammu region and 8183 from Kashmir Valley.
Thirteen more patients including 7 from Jammu region and 6 from Valley died on Sunday, taking the total number of fatalities due to the deadly virus in union territory to 879.
The deceased from Jammu region included an elderly man from Shastri Nagar, a 71-year-old man from Talab Tillo, a 45-year-old woman from Talab Tillo—all in Jammu, an 80-year-old woman from Kandi Kotranka and an 80-year-old man from main Town in Rajouri, a 33-year-old man from Kathua and a 60-year-old woman from Kishtwar.
An official from Jammu said that two patients including a middle aged woman from Talab Tillo Jammu and an aged man from Shastri Nagar died on Sunday.
An official from Rajouri said that two aged patients including a woman from Kandi Kotranka Rajouri and a man from Rajouri town died on Sunday.
An official from Kathua informed that a young man from Kathua died on Sunday while as an official from Kishtwar said that an elderly woman from Kishtwar who died on 9th September was tested positive posthumously.
The six Valley deceased included a 60-year-old man from Bemina Srinagar, a 65-year-old man from Budgam, a 68-year-old man from Matipora Budgam, a 20-year-old girl from Shadipora Bandipora, a 70-year-old man from Baramulla, a 70-year-old woman from Shangus Anantnag.
An official from SMHS said that a patient from Bemina who was admitted on 08 September with COPD and bilateral Pneumonia, a patient from Budgam who was admitted on 12 September with hypertension, diabetes, bilateral Pneumonia and a patient from Matipora Budgam who was admitted on 11 September with bilateral Pneumonia died on Sunday.
An official from SKIMS said that a patient from Baramulla who was admitted on 12 September and a patient from Shadipora Bandipora who was admitted on 06 September died on Sunday.
An official from GMC Anantnag said that an elderly woman from Shangus Anantnag who was undergoing treatment from last many days died on Saturday evening.
With 13 more deaths, the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 879 including from 728 Kashmir division and 151 from Jammu division.
There was no let up in new infections as Jammu and Kashmir recorded 1,686 new COVID-19 cases, just 12 short of its highest single-day spike, taking the union territory's infection tally to 54,096.
Of the 875 fresh cases in Jammu region, Jammu district reported the highest 405 cases, while 56 were reported from Udhampur, 70 from Rajouri , 48 from Kathua, 29 from Samba, 79 from Poonch, 31 from Ramban, 94 from Doda, 18 from Reasi and 45 from Kishtwar.
As per a media bulletin, among the 811 fresh Valley cases, 185 were reported from Srinagar, 158 from Budgam, 79 from Baramulla, 44 from Pulwama, 47 from Anantnag, 62 from Kupwara, 128 from Bandipora, 22 from Kulgam, 78 from Ganderbal and 08 from Shopian.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 54096 positive cases, 17481 are Active Positive, 35737 have recovered and 878 have died; 151 in Jammu division and 727 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 1231698 test results available, 1177602 samples have been tested as negative till September 13, 2020.
Till date 523018 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 41945 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 17481 in isolation and 54279 under home surveillance. Besides, 408435 persons have completed their surveillance period.
