JAMMU: A day after a group of journalists in Jammu rued the inaccessibility of his bureaucracy to common masses, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced that the district chiefs of civil administration and police will remain available to public five days a week.
“Every district magistrate and superintendent of police will remain available to public hearing from 10:30 am to 11:30, every day for five days of the week,” Sinha announced while addressing a press conference at Raj Bhavan Auditorium in Srinagar.
The action in this regard has come within 24 hours after a select group of journalists from Jammu had apprised the LG of the issue in an interaction session with him at the Raj Bhavan.
“In the interaction with journalist in Jammu I had last evening, it was brought to my notice that the officers are not available to public. You (media in Valley) also have flagged this in our interaction (last week),” Sinha remarked.
It has now been made mandatory for every deputy commissioner and superintendent of police to dedicate one hour—from 10:30 am to 11:30 am to hear public grievances. They shall do so five days of the week, except Sundays and Wednesdays, Sinha announced.
“Anyone can meet these officers during this time. These directions will be mandatory for Divisional Commissioners and Inspector Generals of Police as well,” he said.
The LG said that he will personally monitor if the officers are attending to public or not.
