India performs more than 11 lakh 63 thousand COVID-19 tests in single day, recovery rate stands at 77.65 pct

Jammu, September 11: More than 11 lakh 63 thousand COVID samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours. With a cumulative testing figure of around five crore 40 lakh 97 thousand 975, India continues to be one of the countries conducting highest daily testings.

Starting from just one testing lab at National Institute of Virology, Pune in January this year, the country today has one thousand 697 similar labs including one thousand 46 government while remaining 651 labs in the private sector. Average daily testing has witnessed an increase of over 3.2 times in a span of two months. It stands at over a million tests in the current week.

Number of tests done per million of the population has risen nearly six times in a span of two months and currently stands at nearly 37 thousand per million of the population.

Despite increase in testing the positivity rate remains less than 8.5 per cent. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh have recorded a positivity rate even lower than five per cent.

Nearly 35 lakh 50 thousand people in the country have recovered from the Corona virus pandemic. In the last 24 hours, India witnessed recoveries of 70 thousand 880 patients from COVID-19. The overall recovery rate has now reached 77.65 per cent.

The Health Ministry has said the constant increase in recoveries ensured that the actual caseload of the country is reduced and currently comprises only 20.68 per cent of the total positive cases. The number of recovered patients has overtaken the active cases by nearly 3.8 times.

Unprecedented surge in COVID recoveries with more than 100 per cent increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days has also been reported. The Health Ministry has informed that the sustained high recovery rate is fuelled by nine States and Union Territories reporting a recovery rate of over 80 per cent. These states include Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Gujarat among others.

The Ministry has informed that aggressive measures towards early identification, prompt and effective treatment and enhanced clinical skills of ICU doctors have actively led to progressive enhancement of India's total recoveries. It said, high levels of recovery is being reported from various States and UTs and almost 60 per cent of the total recovered cases are pooled in by the five states - Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

India has progressively maintained a low Case Fatality Rate compared to the global average which is above three per cent. There are 17 States and UTs in the country which have reported fatality rates lower than one per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 96 thousand 551 new cases have been reported taking the total number of positive cases to 45 lakh 62 thousand 415.

Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is nine lakh 43 thousand and 480. In the last 24 hours, one thousand 209 deaths were reported taking the toll to 76 thousand 271.
