J&K's COVID-19 tally crosses 23,000-mark, toll rises to 446

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir's tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 23,000-mark on Thursday with 499 fresh infections, while the union territory's toll climbed to 446 as 16 more people including a senior Revenue Officer and two CRPF men succumbed to the disease.
Officials sources said that the Sixteen patients who died on Thursday include a 55-year-old patient from Molu Chitragam, an 82-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar, an 80-year-old male from Malbagh Srinagar, a 68-year-old woman from Handwara, a 50-year-old man CRPF man from 43 Battalion, a 65-year-old male from Rusoo Budgam, a 33-year-old CRPF man from 179 Battalion, a 75-year-old male from Malangam Bandipora, a 70-year-old male from Wanigam Baramulla, a 70-year-old man from Pinjura Tangmarg, a 63-year-old male from Baramulla, a 60-year-old woman from Pantha Chowk Srinagar, a 69-year-old male from Kadlabal Pampore, a 42-year-old male from Patoli Jammu, a 44-year-old male from Roopnagar Jammu and a 69-year old male from Sunderbani Rajouri.
An official said that a 55-year-old senior Revenue Officer from Molu Chitragam who was presently posted as Naib Tehsildar Watchi Shopian died of COVID-19 on Wednesday evening.
DDC Shopian and many other officers especially from Revenue department have expressed grief over his demise.
"It’s with huge grief that we share the demise of our Naib Tehsildar, Wachi Maqbool Wani Sb after he lost his battle against Covid y’day at SKIMS. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. He was a gentle, hardworking man & an asset for the Distt. May Allah SWT grant him Jannat.Aameen," DDC Shopian Dr Yasin Choudhary tweeted.
An official from SKIMS Soura said that an 82-year-old man from Nowgam Srinagar who was admitted on 03 August died on Thursday.
He added that an 80-year-old man from Malbagh Srinagar who was admitted on 05 August also died on Thursday.
An official from SMHS said that a 68-year-old woman from Handwara who was admitted 28 July with hypertension and bilateral Pneumonia died on Thursday.
He said that her first COVID swab was positive while as her second report is awaited. He said that a 70-year-old male from Pinjura Tangmarg area of Baramulla who was admitted on 04 August with hypertension, aspiration pneumonia and other ailments died on Thursday.
He added that a 60-year-old woman from Sofi Mohalla Pantha Chowk who was declared positive on 04 August died on Thursday.
He added that a 63-year-old male from Baramulla who was admitted on 31 July also died on Thursday
An official from CD hospital said that a 50-year-old CRPF man of 43 battalion at Humhama, who is a resident of Uttar Pradesh was admitted on 27 July and died on Thursday.
He said that his second sample was tested negative on Wednesday and he was feeling better, however, he died suddenly due to Cardiac arrest.
An official from SMHS said that a 65-year-old man from Rusoo Budgam who was admitted on 25 July with diabetes, bilateral Pneumonia and hypertension died on Thursday.
An official from JVC Bemina said that a 33-year-old CRPF man from 179 CRPF battalion airport who was admitted on 05 August died on Thursday.
He said that a 75-year-old male from Malangam Bandipora who was admitted on 04 August also died on Thursday.
An official from GMC Baramulla said that a 70-year-old male from Wanigam Baramulla who was admitted on 05 August died on Thursday.
An official from Pampore said that a 60-year-old male from Lalwani Mohalla Kadlabal Pampore who died on 03 August was declared positive after his death.
An official from GMC Jammu said that a 42-year-old man from Patoli Jammu who was admitted on 5 August with hypertension, hypothyroid, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease and diabetic nephropathy and was on oxygen support, died on Thursday. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on August 04, he said.
He added that a 44-male-old male from Roopnagar Jammu who was admitted few days before also died on Thursday.
An official from Rajouri said that a 60-year-old cancer patient who was also tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment died at his rented room in Srinagar.
With 16 deaths, the death toll in J&K had reached to 446 including 413 from Kashmir division and 33 from Jammu division.
Meanwhile, J&K recorded 499 fresh cases of COVID-19 pandemic including 92 travelers, thus taking the total number of positive cases in the Union Territory to 23,454.
With 499 new cases, the tally of positive cases in J&K has reached to 23,955 including 18,181 from Kashmir and 5,273 from Jammu division.
Officials said that among 499 new cases, 416 belong to Kashmir division while as 73 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 18,181 including 12,339 recoveries while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 5,273 including 3,369 recoveries and 34 deaths.
The officials said that total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 7,310 including 5,440 from Kashmir division and 1,807 from Jammu division.
With 464 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 15,708, which is 66.97 per cent of the total cases.
Pertinently, Srinagar district alone has 5,699 positive cases, which is more than the total number of positive cases in Jammu division where total cases are 5,273.
“Cases tested positive in J&K include 113 from Srinagar, 44 from Baramulla, nine from Pulwama, 20 from Kulgam, eight from Shopian, 73 from Anantnag, 52 from Budgam, 17 from Kupwara, 49 from Bandipora and 41 from Ganderbal in Kashmir division while as 73 from Jammu division include 51 from Jammu, six from Kathua, five from Rajouri, one from Ramban, two from Udhampur, five from Samba, one from Poonch and two from Kishtwar,” officials disclosed.
As per officials figures, 5,699 positive cases including 144 deaths and 3,180 recoveries are from Srinagar, 2,041 cases including 73 deaths and 1,558 recoveries are from Baramulla, 1,743 cases including 994 recoveries and 27 deaths are from Pulwama, 1,572 cases including 1,377 recoveries and 29 deaths are from Kulgam, 1,500 cases including 24 deaths and 1,283 recoveries are from Shopian, 1,490 cases including 28 deaths and 1,153 recoveries are from Anantnag, 1,438 cases including 950 recoveries and 33 deaths are from Budgam, 1,181 cases including 957 recoveries and 21 deaths are from Kupwara, 914 cases including 553 recoveries and 16 deaths are from Bandipora and 603 cases including 334 recoveries and seven deaths are from Ganderbal.
In Jammu division, 1,412 cases including 734 recoveries and 23 deaths are from Jammu district, 751 cases including 488 recoveries and three deaths are from Rajouri, 575 cases including 446 recoveries and one death are from Ramban, 565 cases including 455 recoveries and one death are from Kathua, 595 cases including 390 recoveries and two deaths are from Udhampur, 467 cases including 296 recoveries and one death are from Samba, 299 cases including 218 recoveries and two deatha are from Reasi and 159 cases including 110 recoveries are from Kishtwar.
As per the daily information bulletin, 381,410 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 43,098 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 7,310 persons are in isolation.
According to the bulletin, 286,926 persons have completed surveillance period and 43,640 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 686,808 samples are available.
Out of 686,808 samples, the number of samples tested negative stands at 663,354 while as 23,454 have been tested positive, among them 7,310 are active and 15,708 persons have recovered.
