Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO sponsorship suspended, confirms BCCI in 2020

Jammu, Aug 6: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday proclaimed the suspension of Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO's sponsorship for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020.VIVO will not be IPL's title sponsor in 2020 in the wake of the growing border tension between India and China.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd have decided to suspend their partnership for Indian Premier League in 2020," the BCCI said in a statement.
Vivo won the IPL title sponsorship rights for five years from 2018 to 2022 for a reported sum of Rs 2190 crore, approximately Rs 440 crore per annum.The BCCI is likely to float a tender for the new title sponsors as mandated by its constitution.
The IPL starts on September 19 in the UAE, forced out of India due to the rising Covid-19 cases. Since the criticism grew, Vivo decided to take a step back and pull out of IPL for a year, putting a sense of panic in and around the BCCI and all the IPL franchises.
