Two-day curfew, restrictions in Kashmir on August 5 eve

Srinagar: Curfew and restrictions for 2 days were imposed across Kashmir valley late on Monday evening hours after a high level security review meeting.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Chinar Corps, Lt Gen B.S. Raju, and Director General Ppolice, Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, co-chaired a meeting of the Core Group consisting of top officials of the civil administration, intelligence agencies and security forces here on Monday in the backdrop of the prevailing sitiation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was called to review the security situation in the UT and to ensure readiness to meet the anticipated security challenges.Hours after the meeting, curfew and restrictions for next 48 hours were announced by the districts magistrates across all districts in Kashmir.While in some districts curfew was imposed, some others extended the covid related lockdown to ensure that routine movements are restricted over the next two days.
Srinagar District Magistrate said in an order that the curfew will come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in effect on August 4 and August 5.
Srinagar Senior Superintendent of Police has reported that a series of inputs have been received suggesting that separatist and Pakistan-sponsored groups are planning to observe August 5 as Black Day and violent action or protestors are not ruled out, the DM said.
The order said the report has further made a case that to prevent such violence and loss of life/property, it’s imminent to impose curfew in the district.
Meanwhile, according to an official statement, the Core Group reviewed the security situation in Kashmir and the progress on handling the COVID challenges facing the UT.Special emphasis was given to ensure extensive security for thr upcoming one year anniversary of Abrogation of Article 370 including discussions on administrative measures.
