Army foils Infiltration bid along LoC, arms recovered

SRINAGAR: The Army on Friday foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in Macchil sector of Kupwara district.
The militants were either injured in the Indian firing or have been killed, a defence spokesman said, adding that arms and ammunition was recovered from the spot.
Defence spokesman in Srinagar, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that the army exchanged gunfire with infiltrators and foiled an infiltration bid early morning today.
“Early this morning at about 3 am, suspicious movement was detected by alert troops 600 meters on own side of LoC at Machil sector in Kupwara. The infiltrating militants were intercepted by troops and a firefight was ensued,” he said.
"After the first light, a search was carried out during which a trail of blood was found," the spokesman said.
A huge quantity of ammunition including a sniper rifle left back by infiltrators was recovered from the spot during searches.
“Three AK rifles, a sniper rifle, eight grenades and other war-like stores were seized from the scene of the gunbattle,” Col Kalia said.
A combing operation was going on in the area when the reports last came in.
On July 16, a militant was killed after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. On July 10, the Army had killed two militants who were trying to sneak in from Nowgam sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Prior to that, on June 30, the army had said that an infiltration bid was foiled at Parkian Gali sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on the intervening night of June 29 and June 30 when a group of 6-8 militants, in two groups tried to sneak in. After the initial exchange of fire, the militants, according to the army, went back to the Pakistani side.
