JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir reported 16 more deaths due to Covid-19 on Thursday, pushing the total number of fatalities due to the deadly virus in union territory to 368, even as 450 more people tested positive for Coronavirus, taking the overall tally of infections close to 20-thousand mark, settling at 19869.
Of the fresh Covid-19 cases, 83 were reported in Jammu region and 367 in Kashmir division.
As many as 520 patients were discharged from the hospitals following their treatment—189 in Jammu and 331 in Kashmir. With this the recoveries settled at 11842, while actives now stand at 7662.
The deaths related to covid-19 rose to 368 in Jammu and Kashmir after 16 fresh fatalities reported in last 24 hours—one in Jammu and 15 in Valley.
Jammu region witnessed a death for fourth consecutive day, with an elderly patient from Shakti Nagar becoming 26th death due to the Covid-19.
“A 55-year-old man from Shakti Nagar was brought dead in GMC Jammu on Thursday morning at 8:30 am. His Covid-19 samples were taken which returned positive,” an official said.
Fifteen more deaths were reported from Valley in last 24 hours, including a 75-year-old woman from Shivpora Srinagar, a 72-year-old man from Batamallo Srinagar, a 55-year-old CRPF man of 198 battalion, a 66-year-old woman from Keegam Shopian, a 55-year-old man from Humhama Budgam, a 70-year old lady woman from Delina Baramulla, a 75-year-old male from Kreeri Baramulla, a 75-year-old man from Maldera Shopian, a 52-year-old woman from Ashajipora Anantnag, a 64-year-old man from Hajin Bandipora, a 60-year-old man Nawa Kadal Srinagar, an 80-year-man from Turkawangam Shopian, an elderly man from Natipora Srinagar, a 70-year-old lady from Shopian and an 82-year-old man from Lal Bazar Srinagar.
An official from SKIMS said that a 75-year-old woman from Shivpora, Srinagar who was admitted on 26 July, died in the morning. He said that a 72-year-old man from Batamaloo Srinagar, who was admitted on 21 July also died today. They were tested positive for the COVID-19.
The official further said that a CRPF man who was tested positive and was posted with the 198 battalion passed away in SKIMS Soura in the morning. He added that a 52-year-old woman from Ashajipora who was admitted on 29 July and was tested positive after her death on Thursday.
Regarding a patient from Nawa Kadal Srinagar, he said that patient was admitted on 18 July and expired on Thursday afternoon. “He was tested positive for the virus too,” the official said.
He further added that an 82-year-old man from Lal Bazar Srinagar who was admitted in 19 July died on Thursday.
An official from CD hospital said that a 66-year-old woman from Keegam Shopian who was admitted on 26 July died on Thursday.
He further added that a 58-year-old man from Humhama Budgam who was admitted on 22 July also died on Thursday.
An official from SMHS said that an elderly man from Hajin Bandipora who was admitted on 25 July with bilateral Pneumonia died on Thursday.
He said that an elderly man from Natipora Srinagar whose sample was taken on 29 July died on Thursday and was tested positive for COVID-19 after death.
He added that a 70-year-old woman from Shopian whose sample was taken on 28 July and was tested positive on Thursday after death.
An official from GMC Baramulla informed that a 70-year-old man from Delina Baramulla who was admitted on 26 July with bilateral Pneumonia died on Wednesday evening.
He added that a 75-year-old man from Kreeri Baramulla who was admitted on 28 July died on Wednesday evening.
An official from District Hospital Anantnag said that a 75-year-old man from Maldera Shopian who was admitted at District hospital Pulwama a few days before with chest infection died on Thursday. All the deceased had tested positive for the Coronavirus, officials said.
An official from Shopian said that an 80-year-old male who was admitted few days before died on Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19.
With these deaths, the toll in Jammu and Kashmir due to COVID-19 has reached to 368 including 342 from Kashmir division and 26 from Jammu division.
There was no let up in the number of new cases, with Jammu and Kashmir recording 450 cases on Thursday, taking the infections tally to 19869. 367 of them were recorded in Valley while Jammu region also recorded 83 cases.
Of 83 cases in Jammu region, 38 were reported from Jammu, 13 from Rajouri, 09 from Udhampur, 01 from Ramban, 03 from Samba, 04 from Doda, 12 from Poonch, 02 from Kishtwar and 01 from Reasi.
These fresh cases included the incharge of Police Post at Nehru market warehouse along with three more cops posted there, a 48-year-old travel agent from Gole Gujral with no travel history, and an elderly couple from Sarswati Vihar Bohri in Talab Tillo.
As per a media bulletin, among the 367 fresh Valley cases, 183 were reported from Srinagar, 42 from Baramulla, 02 from Kulgam, 06 from Shopian, 20 from Anantnag, 16 from Kupwara, 32 from Pulwama, 20 from Budgam, 33 from Bandipora and 13 from Ganderbal.
They included at least 50 personnel from CRPF, nine from army’s BB Cantt Srinagar and two from Jammu and Kashmir police.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 19869 positive cases, 7662 are Active Positive, 11842 have recovered and 365 have died; 26 in Jammu division and 339 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 627387 test results available, 607518 samples have been tested as negative till July 30, 2020.
Additionally, till date 366937 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 47281 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 6 in Hospital Quarantine, 7662 in hospital isolation and 40583 under home surveillance. Besides, 271040 persons have completed their surveillance period.
