India tally races past 16-L mark

NEW DELHI: India's COVID-19 tally raced past the 16 lakh mark on Thursday, according to the data from the states and union territories.
The Union health ministry figures updated at 8 AM showed a single-day jump of 52,123 pushing the total number of cases to 15,83,792, while the death toll climbed to 34,968 with 775 more people succumbing to the disease.
Recoveries surged to 1020582 pushing the recovery rate to 64.44 per cent while the active cases were recorded at 5,28,242.
However, a tally showed India's COVID-19 caseload at 16,35,302; death toll at 35,744; and recoveries at 10,54,232; an increase of 54221, 794, and 37057, respectively.
The tally has been compiled as per information provided by respective states and union territories latest till 9:25 pm.
