NEW DELHI: With a single-day surge of record over 52000 cases, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 15.81 lakh on Wednesday, while the death toll neared 35-thousand mark.

According to the Union Health Ministry data released in morning, India's COVID-19 tally went past 15 lakh, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark, with 48,513 fresh cases recorded in a day while the recoveries surged to 9,88,029.

The total coronavirus cases climbed to 15,31,669, while the country's death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span, the data updated at 8 am showed, adding there are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.

However, a tally showed India's COVID-19 caseload at 15,81,081; death toll at 34,950; and recoveries at 1017175, an increase of 52565, 770 and 32659, respectively. The tally has been compiled as per information provided by respective states and union territories latest by 9:30 pm.
