6 more deaths, J&K sees 470 fresh cases

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The Coronavirus continued its upward movement in Jammu and Kashmir, with 470 more persons testing positive for the deadly disease on Monday, even as the count of fatalities due to COVID-19 soared to 324, with six more patients dying within 24 hours, pushing the Valley toll to 301.
The fresh infections, out of which 161 were reported in Jammu division and 309 in Valley, have taken the total positive cases across the union territory over the 18-thousand-mark, settling at 18390, 7667 of them active, whereas as many as 474 patients were discharged from hospital—112 in Jammu and 362 in Valley—pushing the recoveries to over 10-thousand-mark (10402).
The deaths related to covid-19 rose to 324 in Jammu and Kashmir after 6 fresh fatalities on Monday, all of them in Valley and also including a NC leader.
Officials informed the deceased included a 65-year-old National Conference block president from Safakadal Srinagar, a 65-year-old from Hanjoora village of Chadoora district Budgam, a-60-year-old man from Hawal Srinagar, a 60-year old man from Bemina Srinagar, a 70-year-old man from Behipora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and 60-year-old man from Buchpora, Srinagar.
An official at SMHS hospital said that the patient from Safakadal was admitted a few days ago with hypertension and bilateral pneumonia. The patient died on Sunday evening and tested positive for COVID-19 posthumously.
Official sources said that the patient was the Block President of the National Conference at Eidgah constituency.
An official at SKIMS informed that a patient from Budgam was admitted on 21 July, died on Monday morning He added that a patient from Hawal was admitted on 18 July with multiple ailments and died in the intervening night of Sunday-Monday.
Regarding the patient from Bemina he said that the patient was admitted on 25 July, with community acquired pneumonia and died on Monday morning.
For Kulgam patient, he said that patient was admitted in the wee hours of Monday and he succumbed after arrival. He further said that a patient from Buchpora who was admitted on 23 July, died on Monday morning.
With six fresh deaths, the total count of fatalities related to Covid-19 climbed to 324 which include 23 from Jammu division and 301 from Kashmir division.
The sharp surge in the coronavirus cases continued on Monday with 470 persons testing positive for the virus across Jammu and Kashmir, taking the infections tally to 18390.
Of 161 cases in Jammu region, 37 were reported from Jammu, 10 from Kathua, 20 from Rajouri, 15 from Udhampur, 15 from Ramban, 12 from Samba, 15 from Doda, 03 from Poonch, 23 from Kishtwar and 11 from Reasi.
The cases from Jammu included a JMC employee from Sainik Colony and a cop posted at Nehru Market (Warehouse).
As per a media bulletin, among the 309 fresh Valley cases, 132 were reported from Srinagar, 11 from Baramulla, 23 from Kulgam, 01 from Shopian, 53 from Anantnag, 06 from Kupwara, 38 from Pulwama, 23 from Budgam, 20 from Bandipora and 02 from Ganderbal.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 18390 positive cases, 7667 are Active Positive, 10402 have recovered and 321 have died; 23 in Jammu division and 298 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 592482 test results available, 574092 samples have been tested as negative till July 27, 2020.
Additionally, till date 357927 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 45645 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 12 in Hospital Quarantine, 7667 in hospital isolation and 40267 under home surveillance. Besides, 264015 persons have completed their surveillance period.
