NC leaders pays rich tributes to Begum Akbar, recalled her contribution

Srinagar, Jul 11: The National Conference (NC) on Saturday paid rich tributes and also offered Fateha to Begum Akbar Jehan, wife of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on her 20th death anniversary.
However, only close relatives and few senior NC leaders offered floral tributes to Begum Akbar due to COVID-19 pandemic though small similar meetings were held in other parts of the valley.
Former Chief Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah his son Omar Abdullah and other senior NC leaders, including Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal wearing masks and keeping physical distance, were among those who paid floral tributes at the grave yard of Begum at Naseem Bagh Hazratbal today.
Over a dozen NC leaders also joined the “Fateha Khawani” (prayers) for Begum Akbar at her graveyard.
Begum Akbar, who died at the age of 93 on this day in 2000 in Srinagar, remained closely associated with freedom struggle and later plebiscite front before the NC joined the mainstream politics after Sheikh-Indira accord in 1975.
Similar fateha khawani meetings were also held in other parts of the valley. Over a dozen senior NC leaders, including former ministers and legislators, paying tributes recalled her contribution towards upliftment of political and social life of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
