NEW DELHI: India saw a record single-day surge of over 27000 COVID-19 cases taking the caseload to 7,87,463 on Thursday, with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi, Telangana, UP and Andhra Pradesh contributing to around 75 per cent of the new cases, while the death toll reached 21593.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, with 24,879 fresh cases of COVID-19 in a day, India's virus caseload increased to 7,67,296 on Thursday morning, while the death toll climbed to 21,129 with 487 people succumbing to the disease.
The number of recoveries stands at 4,76,377,while there are 2,69,789 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country.
However, a tally of cases reported by states and Union territories at 9:15 pm revealed that the total spike for the 24-hour-period from Wednesday night to Thursday night was over 27000.
The tally put the total cases at 787463, including 21593 deaths and 493333 recoveries, an increase by 27045, 493 and 19306, respectively.
