Shah greets ABVP members on its 72nd Foundation Day

New Delhi, Jul 9: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday greeted the members of student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)on its 72nd Foundation Day.

The ABVP is the country's largest student organization.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Shah said, “ABVP, with its nationalist ideology, is playing an important role in motivating the youth towards national service since long and by following the thoughts and ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the youth organization members have been working on the path of nation building”.

Founded in 1948 with the initiative of the RSS activist Balraj Madhok, ABVP was formally registered on July 9, 1949. Its primary purpose was to counter communist influences on university campuses.

Professor Yeshwantrao Kelkar, a Bombay University lecturer became its main organiser in 1958.

According to the ABVP website, he built the organisation into what it is now and is considered to be 'the real architect of the ABVP'.
