HC’s Srinagar wing closed, more cases from Samba cola unit

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded its sharpest spike in the Covid-19 infections in over a month, with 330 more persons testing positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday, taking its tally over 9000-mark to 9261.
Last time, the daily caseload crossed 300-mark was on June 7, when 620 infections were reported.
Six more patients died in Valley, taking the toll to 149, even as more cases were reported from a soft drink company in Samba district, even as a hotel in the district was also sealed after one of its employee tested positive.
The J&K High Court’s Srinagar wing was ordered to remain closed for two days for sanitization purpose after a CRPF personnel deployed there tested positive. 9 employees of the Raj Bhavan were also among fresh infections, along with 19 CRPF personnel.
All this happened on a day when gardens and parks in Jammu and Kashmir reopened after remaining closed for over 100 days due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Kashmir Valley on Wednesday reported six deaths due to covid-19, taking the fatality count due to the virus in J&K to 149.
Medical Superintendent CD hospital Dr Salim Tak said one among those who died at the hospital was a 44-year-old from Sopore town of Baramulla and other, a 75-year-old, was from Batamaloo Srinagar.
“The quadragenarian was suffering from bilateral pneumonia and had acute respiratory failure and was on ventilator. He was admitted to the hospital on June 27 and died today,” he said.
Regarding the septuagenarian from Batamaloo, Dr Tak said that he was suffering from chronic kidney disease, hypertension, hypothyroidism and had bilateral pneumonia. He died a day after he was admitted to the hospital, Dr Tak added.
Earlier, hours after a 65-year-old man from Nadihal Baramulla died at a hospital here, his sample for covid-19 returned positive. The sexagenarian was admitted to SMHS hospital on July 6, officials said.
“He had bilateral pneumonia. The patient was very critical,” Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary told.
Also, a 70-year-old woman from Shopian died at the hospital here, two days after she was admitted. The septuagenarian with Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) also died last evening, Dr Choudhary said.
A 51-year-old woman from Narbal Magam Budgam who died yesterday and was sampled at SMHS hospital tested positive today.
A 36-year-old woman from Nehru Park Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura here, six days after she tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Medical Superintendent Professor Farooq Jan informed the woman died due to “cardiopulmonary arrest” at 2:40 am. “She was a known case of hypertension with T2DM,” he said. The young woman had ‘post renal transplant’ in 2016 and she had reported to hospital’s emergency on June 28 with complaints of shortness of breath, Professor Jan said.
With these deaths, 135 people in Kashmir and 14 in Jammu division have died so far due to the virus.
J&K also reported 330 new infections on Wednesday, including 19 CRPF personnel, 9 staffers of Srinagar Raj Bhawan, 5 bank employees, four cops, two heath workers and three pregnant women.
Three employees of a soft-drink company in Samba district were also among fresh cases, taking the total number of the cases in J&K to 8931.
Among the fresh cases, 59 were recorded in Jammu region and 271 in Valley while 168 people—38 in Jammu and 130 in Valley— were discharged from hospitals today, taking recoveries to 5567. Out of the total infections in J&K, 3545 are active positive.
Of 59 cases in Jammu region, 23 cases were reported from Rajouri, 14 from Doda, 5 from Udhampur, 1 from Kathua, 2 from Ramban, 7 from Samba, 2 from Jammu, 4 from Reasi and one from Kishtwar.
The Rajouri cases included 17 civilians from Red Zone Mohra including 7 from Palwar, 8 from Pateili, 1 from Draj and 1 from Mohra, having no travel history while 5 civilians were tested positive from Nowshera with travel history
The 23rd case from the district was a NDRF personnel of Dangri with travel history to Andra Pardesh, who is in Administrative Quarantine at Jammu.
As many as 38 patients including 17 from Ramban, 5 each from Samba, Udhampur and Kathua, 3 from Jammu, 2 from Kishtwar, and one from Doda were discharged from hospitals after their recovery.
As per a media bulletin, among the 271 fresh Valley cases, Srinagar reported 119, Baramulla 82, Anantnag 26, Kupwara 18, seven in Bandipora, five in Budgam, four each in Kulgam, Ganderbal, and Shopian, and two in Pulwama.
Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at SKIMS Soura told that out of the 2385 samples which were processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory of the hospital, 83 returned positive for the virus.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, said among them 28 are from Anantnag, 21 from Srinagar, 19 from CRPF, seven from Bandipora, three from Baramulla and one each from Pulwama, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Shopian while address of one was not available.
21 cases from Srinagar include Male (28) from Sanat Nagar Srinagar, , Male (35) from Padshahi Bagh, Male (25) from Shalimar, male (01) from Jawahar Nagar, Male (55) from Hawal, Male (55) Rainawari , female (30) from Peerbagh, Male (55) from Barbarshah, Male (26) from Nowgam, 10. 01 Male (20) from Srinagar, 01 female (52) from Rajbagh Srinagar, 01 female (21) from Ahmednagar, , Male (52) from Saidakadal, Male (58) from Zoonimar, Male (70) from Gulab Bagh , Male (50) from Alamgiri Bazar, Male (65) from Dulatabagh, female (60) from Buchpora, female (50) from Habakadal, Male (22) from Aloochi Bagh and Male (36) from Satho Bagwanpora.
The Bandipora cases include male (33) from NHPC, female (40) from Naidkhai , Male (40) from Sumbal Bandipora, , Male (48) from Ayathmulla , Male (19) from Gundpora and two females (45, 43) from Ahamishareef. 19 from CRPF include male (38, 33, 48, 24, 41, 39, 40, 40, 30, 52, 46, 50, 40, 50, 53, 39, 30, 39, 35) from 35 batallion Humama Budgam.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, told that out of 430 samples processed at the hospital’s lab, 51 tested positive for COVID-19. Of them 50 are from Srinagar and one Shopian—female (38) from Nadigam.
The Srinagar cases include female (65) from Nawakadal, male (56) and female (53) from Ahmad Nagar, male (40) and female (58) from Elahibagh, female (25) and two males (32, 65) from Lal Bazar, male (40) from Budshah Mohalla Lal Bazar, females (35, 58) and male (60) from Buchpora, male (33) from Ganderbal, male (42) and two females (17, 50) from SR Gunj, female (40) from Barbarshah, male (27) from Khankah, male (25) from Aalikadal, males (14, 11) and from Zadi Masjid Safa Kadal, males (95, 1) and female (60) from Habbkadal, male (47) from Khanyar, male (23) from Nowshera, male (23), originally a resident of Kupwara, female (42) from Nishat, male (37) from Hyderpora, male (28) from Wuyan Pampore, male (24) from Kralpora, male (45) from Batamaloo, male (36) from Watlar, amle (32) from Rajwan, male (30) from Soura, female (30) and male (59) from Rawalpora, female (29) from Rainawari, male (35) from Chanapora, males (31 and 52) from Dalgate, male (36) from Eidgah, male (45) from Balgardan, male (30) from Maisuma, male (48) and female (65) from Peerbagh, males (22 and 42) from Sonwar and male (45) from Naseem Bagh.
The cases from Raj Bhawan were confirmed at CD hospital lab and include males (40, 44, 37, 41, 28, 45, 37, 50 and 26).
Meanwhile, 130 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 9261 positive cases, 3545 are Active Positive, 5567 have recovered and 149 have died; 14 in Jammu division and 135 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 421571 test results available, 412310 samples have been tested as negative till July 8, 2020.
Additionally, till date 304585 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 39156 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 45 in Hospital Quarantine, 3,545 in hospital isolation and 46106 under home surveillance. Besides, 215584 persons have completed their surveillance period.
