BJP’s Dr Tahir Chowdhary bats for procurement of more ventilators, urge Lt Governor to intervene

Jammu: Lauding the role of the Jammu and Kashmir government to combat the spread of COVID-19, the spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dr Tahir Chowdhary said that there is an urgent need of measures to upgrade health facilities including procurement of more ventilators especially in Jammu region.
He said that the non-COVID serious patients are facing grave problems due to an inadequate number of ventilators in government-run hospitals in Jammu region.
“The patients, who arrive in the emergency ward of Government Medical College and Hospitals (GMC&H) are being denied from the ventilators as the majority of life-saving machines are shifted in dedicated COVID-19 wards and in COVID-19 suspected rooms.
“As the majority of ventilators are kept in the isolation wards of Government Medical College and Hospitals (GMC&H) to treat COVID-19 patients due to which other emergency patients are being denied for the same service,” Dr Tahir Chowdhary said.
He added that poor people cannot afford the charges in private hospitals. In this regard, the government must ensure the ventilator service to poor people in government hospitals if required.
He said that in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the government must procure more ventilators to ramp up the health facilities in Jammu.
Citing a media report, he said there are total of 96 ventilators in private and government hospitals in Jammu region, which are insufficient to deal patients during ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In this pandemic, Dr Tahir Chowdhary said the government must expedite the process for procurement of more ventilators before the situation turns worse.
He said that the more ventilators can prepare government deal COVID-19 crisis and non-virus patients simultaneously.
Appreciating the efforts of J&K administration under Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, G C Murmu to combat the spread of COVID-19, he said the government is working hard and increased the testing to identify the suspected patients of COVID-19.

He urged Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, G C Murmu to expedite the process for procurement of ventilators at the earliest for the welfare of people.
