BSF Jawan among 5 more die, toll 138; J&K infections tally now 8675

4 lakh people tested so far; 2.1% detected positive

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The death toll due to Covid-19 continued its upward climb in Jammu and Kashmir as five more patients died on Monday, taking the toll across the union territory to 138, even as 246 more persons including at 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men, two policemen and a soldier tested positive for Coronavirus across the UT, taking the total number of the cases in J&K to 8675.
Among the fresh cases, 36 were recorded in Jammu region and 210 in Valley while 63 people—8 in Jammu and 55 in Valley— were discharged from hospitals today, taking recoveries to 5318. Out of the total infections in J&K, 3219 are active positive.
Kashmir Valley reported five more deaths due to covid-19, taking the death toll due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 138. They included a BSF trooper.
The trooper from 33 Battalion died at BSF Sector Headquarters in Panthachowk , official sources said.
Previously, four persons including a 55-year-old woman from Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district died here. Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, informed the woman from Boniyar Uri passed away at 8 a.m. today.
“She was case of Rheumatic Heart Disease Associated with Congestive Cardiac Failure and Respiratory Tract Infection,” Professor Jan said. The quinquagenarian, he said, was in “IDB on high flow oxygen and was very sick.”
Earlier in the day two patients—56-year-old from Budgam and 90-year-old from Baramulla district, died here.
Regarding the 56-year-old man from Budgam district, Professor Jan said that he was suffering “HTN, CKD and bilateral Community acquired pneumonia. The patient was also on dialysis as well. He expired today early morning at 4 am,” he said.
As regards the nonagenarian, a resident of Tangmarg area of Baramulla, Medical Superintendent CD hospital, Dr. Saleem Tak, said that he was admitted on June 26 and died at 2:00 am today.
“He was suffering from hypertension, cardiac ailments and bilateral pneumonia,” he told.
Another patient—a 65-year-old male from Kulgam died at SKIMS where he was admitted on 29 June.
“The patient was then shifted to Medical Observation where sample was taken, which returned positive. The patient was a case of Hypertension,T2DM with Encephalopathy with septic uremic and B/L CAP. The patient expired in the evening,” officials said.
With these deaths, 138 people have succumbed to the virus in J&K— 124 from the Valley and 14 from Jammu division.
Srinagar district with 33 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (25), Kulgam (17), Shopian (13), Anantnag (11), Budgam (10), Jammu(8), Kupwara (7), Pulwama (four), Bandipora (three), Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Ganderbal, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
J&K also reported 246 new infections on Monday, including 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men, two policemen and a soldier, taking the number of cases in J&K to 8675.
As per a media bulletin, the 210 fresh Valley cases included 65 from Srinagar, 49 from Kulgam, 41 from Baramulla, 12 from Shopian, 01 from Anantnag, 03 from Kupwara, 34 from Pulwama, 3 from Budgam, 01 from Bandipora and one from Ganderbal.
Among new cases, 104 were tested positive at SKIMS, 52 at JVC Bemina and rest at other hospitals, officials said.
Dr G H Yatoo, Nodal officer for Covid-19 at SKIMS said that out of 1268 samples tested at SKIMS on Monday, 104 samples were tested positive.
He said 104 new cases include 47 from Kulgam, 34 from Pulwama, 05 each from Budgam and Baramulla, 02 each from Anantnag and Srinagar and one each from Bandipora, Kupwara and Shopian.
Dr Farooq Jan Medical Superintendent at SKIMS told that 104 patients include 13 from different CRPF battalions and one army man of 9 RR Kulgam.
Dr Reyaz Untoo, Principal at JVC Bemina said that out of 488 samples tested at SKIMS Bemina (JVC) 52 including 37 from Srinagar and 15 from Shopian were tested positive. He said that among 15 patients from Shopian, two are from Police station Zainapora.
Meanwhile, 63 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 8 from Jammu Division and 55 from Kashmir.
In Jammu region, 36 fresh cases were reported today which include 6 from Jammu, one from Udhampur, 5 from Kuthua, 3 from Ramban, 13 from Samba, 1 from Poonch, 4 from Rajouri, 2 from Rajouri and 3 from Reasi.
As many as 8 patients including 4 from Jammu, 2 from Kathua, and one each from Rajouri and Poonch were discharged from hospitals after their recovery.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 8675 positive cases, 3219 are Active Positive, 5318 have recovered and 138 have died; 14 in Jammu division and 124 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 406212 test results available, 397537 samples have been tested as negative till July 6, 2020.
Additionally, till date 299748 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 40157 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 47 in Hospital Quarantine, 3,219 in hospital isolation and 46777 under home surveillance. Besides, 209410 persons have completed their surveillance period.
