IED defused, CRPF man hurt in blast

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Sunday averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a CRPF jawan was injured in a low intensity IED blast hours before.
Official sources said that following timely inputs and action by security forces, an IED, which was planted by militants near Peaks Automobile crossing in Pulwama, was detected on Sunday.
The road was closed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned, they said, adding the IED was later defused without causing any damage.
They said had it not been detected and defused timely, it would have caused damage to life and property in the area.
The development comes just hours after a CRPF jawan was injured when militants triggered a low intensity IED in Gangoo area on Srinagar-Pulwama road in south Kashmir.
The IED blast occurred at Gongoo area of Pulwama in South Kashmir this morning as security forces were passing through the area. Officials said a CRPF personnel, identified as Constable GD Dass of 182 battalion, suffered injuries in his hands due to the blast, but his condition is stated to be stable.
The security forces fired few shots in the air after the blast, the official said.
He said the entire has been sealed and a massive search operation has been launched to nab the militants responsible for planting the two IEDs.
