Two more deaths, 124 fresh cases in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the biggest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 162 people testing positive for the disease, while two more succumbed to the deadly virus taking the death tally to 23 in the valley.
“162 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 38 from Jammu division and 124 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1921. Also 02 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division” reads the official statement of J&K government.
A health official said that the Srinagar city reported 7th Covid-19 death as a 55-year-old man from Fateh Kadal died at the Chest Disease Hospital, while a 70-year-old man from Anantnag who died late on Tuesday evening at GMC evening was tested positive today.
“A 55 years old male, resident of Fateh Kadal, Srinagar was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar from SICU SMHS on 18th May as an operated case of exploratory laprotomy with Appendicectomy after testing COVID positive,” Nodal officer GMC Dr. Salim Khan told The News Now.
He added that the patient was kept intonated in SICU SMHS Hospital and then extubated kept on NIV and then was shifted to CD Hospital.
“At CD Hospital, the patient was improving and hemodynamically stable. The patient was maintaining saturation without oxygen. However, at 4:00 PM the patient developed sudden cardiac arrest and was immediately intubated, coupled to a ventilator and resuscitated and developed another cardiac arrest and died,” he added.
While on the other hand, the second Covid-19 death was reported from Anantnag. Principal GMC Anantnag Dr. Showkat Jeelani said, “A 70 year-old person who had died at GMC Anantnag here in South Kashmir was tested positive today.

“The man hails from Sarnal area of Anantnag and had died in the hospital yesterday evening. His body was kept at the mortuary and today his test was found positive”.
He added that the patient was extremely sick and was suffering from pneumonia.
The Kashmir valley has been reported 23 Covid-19 death including 7 from Srinagar, 5 from Anantnag, 4 each from Kulgam and Baramulla, 2 from Budgam and one from Bandipora.
Meanwhile, as many as 124 Covid-19 cases were reported across Kashmir which includes 27 from Kulgam, 26 from Kupwara, 21 from Pulwama, 20 from Srinagar, 12 from Shopian, 10 from Baramulla, 4 from Anantnag and 2 each from Bandipora and Budgam.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr. Farooq Jan told The New Now, “As many as 1440 samples were tested out of which 29 returned positive including 18 from Kulgam and 11 from Srinagar”.
Among the 29 patients, tested positive at SKIMS include 11 from Srinagar with travel history to New Delhi and Gujarat. Those who were tested positive included a 70-year-old female from Soura, 35-year-old female from Safa Kadal, 45-year-old female besides 45-year-old male from Baghat, a female quarantined at Lake view hotel, 21-year-old male and a 50-year-old female from Chattabal, 31 year-old male from Bemina and a 36-year-old male from Fateh Kadal.
Other 18 positive patients from Kulgam who were tested positive at SKIMS include 27-year-old female and a 22-year-old male from Bugam, besides 16 were from Chattabal including 6 men aged 26, 44, 60, 15, 36 and 18-year-old and 9 females aged and a minor 4-year-old girl.
Nodal officer GMC Dr Salim Khan told TNN, “637 samples were tested at Chest Disease Hospital Microbiology, out of which 89 samples returned positive including 2 GMC Srinagar intern and a driver of Chest Disease Hospital”.
Among the 89 patients tested positive 53 people are with no travel history besides 36 others have travel history including 7 returning from Bangladesh and labor from Bangladesh.
As per the detail available amongst the 89 positive cases, 21 are from Pulwama which include 26-year-old male from Wahibug, 25-year-old male from Larnoo, a 23-year-old male from Khasipora, 24-year-old female from Pulwama, 23-year-old female from Khalam, 27-year-old female from Kakapora, 20-year-old male from Drabgam, 24-year-old male from Khrew, 27-year-old male from Pampore, 24-year-old from Hurdmir, a minor 8-year-old female from Kakapora, 17 year old female from Kakapora, 30-year-old, 65-year-old male from Pampore, 26 old male from Gangoo, 25 years old from Lajoora, 18-year-old from male Dhramgund, 50 and 80 years old male from and 70 years old from Gadpora were tested positive.


From Baramulla, 7 women aged 21, 19, 25, 21, 25, 51, and 23 years old, besides 8 males aged 26, 24, 25, 52, 20, 30, 80, 70 and a patient were tested positive. Further, 24-year-old men from GMC Boys Hostel Bemina, 40 year old female, a 24-year-old male, three pregnant women 34-year-old from Chanapora, 30 and 50-year-old women from Dara Srinagar and a 35-year-old male driver of Chest Disease Hospital was tested positive.
From Kupwara, 40-year-old labor, 65-year-old male from Kupwara, 25-year-old female beside a 25-year old male from Beminapora besides 17 patients from Kupwara Langate were tested positive which include, 10 females aged 35, 30, 58, 45, 35, 16,25, 10, 80 and 25 years old besides 7 males aged 52, 24, 60, 35, 80, 30 and 58 years old. From Anantnag, 26-year-old male, 42-year-old, 70 year old male from Sarnal Payeen were tested positive.
In Shopian, 42 year old male, 12-year-old boy, 46-year-old female, a 15-year-old female and 25 year old male from Meemandar, a minor, 27-year-old male from Palpora and two pregnant females both 30-year-old from Krawoora Shopian were tested positive.
While from Kulgam 7 females aged 22, 28, 24, 23, 25 & 25, teenager, besides a minor and 24-year-old male was tested positive. And, in Bandipora, 25-year-old female was also tested positive. Moreover, 16 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir which included 5 from Anantnag, 4 each from Kulgam and Budgam, 2 from Pulwama and 1 from Bandipora.
