Pak shells Rajouri, Poonch

JAMMU: The Pakistan Army shelled forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts, drawing strong retaliation from the Indian Army. The Pakistani firing targeted around a dozen villages in the twin border district but no casualty was reported on Indian side.

"At about 07:20 am today, Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms along LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district", defence spokesperson Lt Col Devander Anand said.

Official sources said that Pakistan Army resorted to heavy firing and shelling in entire Line of Control sector Nowshera and around eight villages including Deeing, Kalal, Jhanger, Namb, Kadali, Sair, Makdi came under Pak shelling with mortar that continued till late noon hours in the area.

The cross-border shelling between the two sides was going on when last reports were received, the officials said, adding that there was no immediate report of any casualty during the Pakistani shelling.

Earlier in the wee hours, Pakistani troops also shelled areas along the LoC in Poonch sector.

"About 03:30 am today, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms & shelling with mortars along LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector of district Poonch", the spokesman said.

“Four villages in the area including Mankote came under firing and shelling that continued for over five hours,” officials added.

Meanwhile, police authorities said that a domesticated cow sustained splinter injuries in Namb village of Nowshera while no other loss of life or property was reported.
