Cop killed, 2 injured in Pulwama terror attack

SRINAGAR: In second such attack in as many days, a policeman was killed and two other security personnel injured when terrorists opened fire at a security forces' patrol party in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Thursday.
The incident took place in the afternoon near Perchoo bridge of the district where a joint patrol of the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir police was ensuring law and order situation.
Militants, said to be three in number, opened indiscriminate firing at the joint team leaving three security forces personnel injured.
Head Constable Anoop Singh of 10th battalion of the India Reserve Police succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital, officials said. He was a resident of Saidpora in Pulwama.
Singh’s colleague Mohammed Ibrahim, and a CRPF soldier Krishan Kumar of 182 battalion, were injured in the attack, officials said.
While Ibrahim has sustained serious bullet wounds is battling for life at the hospital, Kumar has received a minor bullet injury in his chest, official sources said.
A police official said security forces have cordoned off the area and a hunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
Thursday's incident came a day after terrorists shot dead two BSF personnel at Pandach area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, on the outskirts of Srinagar. The militants had also snatched the weapons of Constable Rana Mondol and Constable Jia-ul Haque of the 37th battalion of the Border Security Force.
Later in the afternoon, civil and Police Officers led by Inspector General of police Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, IGP CRPF Rajash Kumar, DC Pulwama Raghav Langer laid floral wreaths on the body and paid rich tributes to the martyr.
