Sensex advances over 200 points
Mumbai, May 21: The BSE Sensex remained positive for the third consecutive session on Thursday as it advanced by 211 pts at 31,029.70 in opening trade on brisk buying in Auto, Bankex and Finance stocks.
The Nifty of national stock exchange too rose by 38 pts to 9105.10. It registered an intraday high and low at 9130 and 9,056.10 pts respectively.
The Sensex registered an intraday high and low at 31,029.70 and 30,765.32 pts respectively.
In scrips, Bajaj Auto, HeroMoto Corp, Asian Paints and Kotak Bank lifted the market further.
Bajaj Auto, up 4 per cent, was the top gainer on the index after the firm's Q4FY20 results beat Street expectations. HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, and Nestle India, up 1 per cent each, were other top gainers.
On the downside, M&M, ITC, and NTPC were the top losers on the Sensex.
Aviation stocks, IndiGo and SpiceJet, surged 8 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively in the opening deals after the government announced that domestic airline operations would resume on May 25, more than two months after all flights were halted
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was at 11,378.32 level, up 100.10 points or 0.89 per cent.
S&P BSE SmallCap index, on the other hand, was at 10,544.45, up 72.08 points or 0.69 per cent.
The gainers were Bajaj Auto by 4.55 pc to Rs 2674.40, HeroMoto Corp by 3.51 pc to Rs 2094.55, Asian paints by 2.43 pc to Rs 1536.85, HDFC Bank by 2.05 pc to Rs 875.60
and Kotak Bank by 1.62 pc to Rs 1182.10.
A total of 13 companies including Bajaj Finserv, Colgate Palmolive, and Hindustan Zinc are scheduled to announce their March quarter results later in the day.
