Jammu: Following the government notification of Jammu and Kashmir new domicile law, the social media including Twitter and Facebook are flooded with messages as well as memes from youth expressing resentment against resident law despite low speed mobile internet.
The notification for the new law was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday through the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of State Laws) Order, 2020, paving the way for thousands of Central government employees, especially, those in the armed forces with 15 years of residency in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the new law, anyone who has resided in J&K for 15 years or has studied here for seven years, and appeared in the Class 10 or Class 12 examination, will be eligible for domicile certificates. This would allow them to apply for gazetted and non-gazetted government jobs.
Terming the new domicile law anti-youth and injustice, the youngsters from both regions unanimously criticized the government for reserving only class -IV posts for the unemployed folk of J&K.
The messages and memes against J&K domicile law make #JKagainstDomicileLaw trending on Twitter with 7,474 tweets till the reports pour in.
“Even Apni Party of BJP is opposing Domicile Law. Have some shame & amend this law trust me we will not sit at home once lockdown get over. From Poonch to Jammu to Kashmir Youth of J&K is now on one platform against,” a law student, with more than 3K followers, Guftar Ahmed from Darhal wrote on Twitter.
“I want to apologize to my fellow citizens of J&K for voting BJP. We never thought that this will end up on Identity crisis, Unemployment, Internet Blockage for year, Loss of Jobs, Reduction to a class-IV person of this erstwhile state,” Abhindhan from Jammu, wrote on Twitter.
“I'm saying this with strong conviction that developments in JK post August 5 will have catastrophic ramifications on this part of the world. Down tha annals of the history current regime will be seen as a great Villain,” Saima Chowdhary from Surankote wrote on Twitter.
Apart from youth, the regional political parties of J&K also rejects new domicile law.
“Talk about suspect timing. At a time when all our efforts & attention should be focused on the #COVID outbreak the government slips in a new domicile law for J&K. Insult is heaped on injury when we see the law offers none of the protections that had been promised,” former chief minister Omar Abdullah wrote on Twitter.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) termed the law as “frighteningly ambivalent, irresolute and akin to rubbing salt to the peoples wounds”.
PDP General Secretary and former MLC Surinder Choudhary termed the law as “ill-timed, very badly drafted and outcome of confused and chaotic bureaucracy”.
