COVID-19 Minor, mother-son duo among six test positive in Valley; J&K total 55

SRINAGAR: The number of coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 55 with six more persons testing positive from Kashmir region on Tuesday, taking the total number of infected persons in Valley to 43.
All these six new positive cases of COVID-19 are contacts of previous positive cases, and include a ten-year-old boy, who had hugged a man who later tested positive for the deadly disease and a mother-son duo, whose one more family member has already tested positive.
“6 new positive cases confirmed in Kashmir division. All contacts of previous positive cases. Meanwhile contact tracing continues in both Jammu and Kashmir Divisions. Please cooperate. Let’s Fightitogether”, tweeted Principal Secretary Information Department and government spokesman Rohit Kansal.
Official sources informed that the three of these 6 new patients are residents of Srinagar, two of Bandipora and 1 from Budgam.
Four of these patients are admitted at SKIMS Soura which include a 10-year-old kid from Eidgah Srinagar who has no travel history.
Among the three others, two are from Saderkoot Bala in Bandipora including a 23-year-old patient who had recently returned from New Delhi, where he participated in a religious function and other is in his early 30s and is said to be a contact of the previous COVID-19 patient.
The fourth patient in SKIMS is a 34-year-old from Siobugh Budgam who had returned from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah.
The other two patients are presently admitted at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital Rainawari and had come in contact with the man from the Bemina who had tested positive earlier.
“They include a 65-year-old woman from Bemina Srinagar and her 30-year-old son. The woman’s other son, a 25-year-old youth, had tested positive for the virus four days ago and is also admitted in JLNM,” they said.
With these fresh positive cases, the number of COVID-19 patients in Kashmir Valley has gone up to 43 including maximum 23 from Srinagar, followed by Bandipora with 11 cases, Budgam 5, Baramulla and Shopian 2 cases each and Pulwama 1.
Kashmir has already lost two elderly citizens to the Coronavirus and two – including one from Jammu, are on way to recovery, leaving the active cases in Valley to 41 and that in the UT to 51. As many as 12 cases are from Jammu division.
Meanwhile, according to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19), till date 15001 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 9895 in home quarantine including in facilities operated by government, 350 persons in Hospital Quarantine, 51 in hospital isolation and 3334 under home surveillance. 1371 persons have completed their 28 days surveillance period.
The Bulletin further said that till date 861 samples have been sent for testing of which 804 have tested as negative, 55 positive and 02 reports are awaited till March 31, 2020.
