J&K govt will re-engage retired MOs, paramedical, nursing staff

JAMMU: Facing acute shortage of manpower amid COVID-19 crisis, the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has decided to re-engage retired Medical Officers (MOs), consultants, senior consultants, paramedical and nursing staff on contractual basis.
Moreover, the J&K Health and Medical Education department (JKH &ME) government is also mulling to extend the tenure of staff members, who are scheduled to retire in next six months.
“Many posts of paramedical and nursing staff have been lying vacant since past 2-3 years. Owing to crisis erupted by COVID-19, J&KHME has decided to re-engage retired paramedical and nursing staff of Government Medical College and Hospitals Jammu and Srinagar,” an official told The News Now.
“They will be engaged for the period of one year and till the further orders. Those employees who will retire in next six months are eligible for the posts but they may also get extension,” he said.
“In view of the extraordinary situation that has arisen due to the spread of COVID-19, sanction is hereby accorded to the contractual appointment of those faculty members and paramedical and nursing staff in Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and Jammu and doctors (Medical Officers, Consultants and Senior Consultants) and paramedical and nursing staff in the Health Services Department, Kashmir and Jammu, who have retired on superannuation from these Institutions/Departments with effect from March 31, 2018,” reads the order issued by Financial Commissioner H&ME department, Atal Dullo. “However, those of the faculty members and paramedical and nursing staff who have retired from Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and Jammu and have subsequently been engaged on academic arrangement basis in the new Government Medical Colleges Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri will not be eligible for these appointments,” reads the order.
“The orders of contractual appointments shall be issued by Principals of GMCs Jammu and Srinagar and Directors of Health Services Department, Jammu/Kashmir,” the order further reads.
As per the order, the persons engaged on contractual basis as such will not be assigned any administrative job and posts for the purposes of contractual appointment shall be deemed to have been created.
