Srinagar, Feb 15: Dozens of villages, including near the Line of Control (LoC), in north Kashmir district of Kupwara and Bandipora, remained cut off with their respective tehsil and district headquarters due to accumulation of several feet of snow and slippery road conditions.

The road to Karnah from district headquarters Kupwara reopened on Saturday after remaining closed for several weeks due to snow. However, the border towns of Machil, Keran and Gurez remained cut off due to slippery road conditions and accumulation of snow.

Traffic was on Saturday resumed on Kupwara-Karnah road after remaining suspended for several weeks due to snowfall, an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara told TNN over phone this morning. He said traffic was resumed after the snow clearance operation on the road was completed on Friday. The sky is cloudy but weather was still dry, he said.

The authorities have already pressed into service snow clearance machines and cutters to clear the snow and put through the road.
