Hizbul ultra killed in Bijbehara encounter

SRINAGAR: A militant affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit was killed in a brief encounter with security forces on Monday after the ultras opened fire on a patrol team in Anantnag district, injuring a soldier.
On a credible input, a cordon & search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces at Aarwani area of Bijbehara in District Anantnag, a police spokesman said.
While the searches were going on, a bullet was fired by the hiding militants, injuring a jawan, and triggering retaliation, he said.
In the ensuing gunfight, one militant has been killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter.
Identifying the killed terrorist as Shahid Ahmad of Kulgam, the spokesman said, he was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, as per police records.
“Ahmad was wanted by law for his complicity in terror crimes including attacks on security establishments. Terror crime cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 72/2018 and FIR No. 01/2020 at PS Quimoh,” he said.
Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
“All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes,” he added.
