Ranchi, Jan 27: A curfew imposed following a mob attack on a pro-CAA rally in Jharkhand was relaxed for two hours in the Lohardaga district on Monday.

The prohibitory orders have been in place since January 23 after a rally in favour of the new citizenship law was attacked by a particular community. The attackers had set on fire 85 vehicle and torched more than 40 shops.

The Lohardaga district administration imposed curfew to control the situation. Despite it, anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters held meetings on road.

The district administration had to deploy additional forces including Rapid Action Force (RAF) to control the situation.

The BJP had staged dharna in front of the Governor House on January 25 to protest the Lohardaga incident. Senior police officials including those of the Inspector General rank have been camping in Lohardaga to control the situation.

According to the police some people have been detained in connection with violence.

In a similar incident earlier on January 12, a pro CAA rally was attacked in Giridih district. Several people including policemen were injured when stones were pelted on a Tiranga Yatra taken out by Hindu organisations in support of CAA in Jharkhand's Giridih district. Police then resorted to using tear gas shells and lathi-charge to disperse the mob.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Congress government in the state is soft on anti-CAA protesters.
