Chief Secretary inaugurates Video Conferencing Facility for inmates at Amphalla Jail

JAMMU: Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam today inaugurated Video Conferencing Facility for jail inmates here at the District Jail Amphalla.

Chief Secretary complimented the inmates for getting this facility which will reduce the distances between the inmates and their families as they could now interact with each other without covering long distances.

Chief Secretary also inspected various sections of the jail including Interview Room facility, Jail Product’s Display, Manufactory and Jail Hospital.

He was informed that the Prison Department has been providing correctional programmes which include educational and vocational trainings, recreational programmes, psychiatric consultation etc. Besides the products manufactured in the prison are put to sale at the department’s retail outlet and through various exhibitions.

Meanwhile, a cultural function to celebrate the Republic Day was also held in the jail premises where several cultural items were presented by the jail inmates and the jail staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary complimented the inmates and jail staff for the cultural performances. He said it was a wonderful experience to witness so much talent of the inmates.

He also appreciated J&K Prisons Department for imparting professional skills of weaving, tailoring, and handicrafts to the jail inmates.

He said that jails are meant for correction where inmates are supposed to shun their past and start a new future so as to live a normal life as a good citizen of this country.

On the occasion, a 90 seconds short film on J&K Prisons Department was also played which showcased several correctional services being provided to the inmates.

The cultural programme was also witnessed by Director General of Police, Prisons, J&K, VK Singh; DIG Prisons, M S Lone; SSP District Jail Kot Bhalwal, Dinesh Sharma; Superintendent, District Jail Apmphalla, Saleem Ahmad Beigh, Jail officers, Jail inmates and their families.
