DDC Kupwara reviews District Environment Plan

KUPWARA, JANUARY 22: The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kupwara, Anshul Garg today chaired a meeting of concerned officers regarding constitution of District Environment Committees for implementation of District Environment plan.
The meeting was informed that the Committees have been set up for assessment and monitoring of environment pollution in the district.
Regarding the Solid Waste Management plan, the DDC directed the Executive Officers of Municipalities to submit a detailed report about the number of households in every ward of Kupwara, Handwara and Langate. He also sought a detailed report from the concerned officers for identification and establishment of land-fill sites for proper disposal of solid waste in the district.
He directed EOs to frame DPRs regarding the establishment of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) for management of liquid waste in towns. The DDC asked the concerned officers to ensure door to door collection of garbage in towns to control the pollution at basic level.
The DDC also sought details about the disposal of medical and bio-medical waste. The Medical authorities informed him that the medical waste is collected on regular at SDH and PHC levels for proper disposal. He directed the health authorities to establishment in-house medical and bio-medical waste disposal plant.
Reviewing the plantation and soil conservation plans in the district, the DDC sought a detailed report from DFOs about the total forest area reclaimed from degradation up to this January.
The DDC also sought a report about the works done under relevant Schemes in each division during the last 3 years and directed the concerned to submit a vision document about the steps to be taken for soil conservation.
The Industries department was asked for collection and management of industrial waste in industrial estates to reduce the pollution levels. The General Manager DIC was asked to establishment a Affluent Treatment Plant (ATP) at Chotipora Industrial Estate.
The Mining authorities were asked for assessment of damages in Nallah Kehmil of Kupwara and Mawar area of Handwara and take step for the damage recovery.
The School Education Department was directed to generate awareness among children about the importance of preservation and conservation of environment and ecology.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Nazir Ahmad Lone; Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Divisional Forest Officers, District Panchayat Officer, Executive Officers of Municipalities, representatives of District Industries Centre and Health Department were present in the meeting.
