‘GoI doing needful to provide world-class facilities to JK athletes’


JAMMU, JANUARY 21: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday inaugurated indoor multipurpose sports complex here at Bhagwati Nagar.
The complex is constructed by the J&K State Sports Council at the cost of Rs 4 crore.
The Minister was accompanied by MP Jammu Poonch Constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma; Administrative Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department, Sarmad Hafeez; Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma; DC Jammu, Sushma Chauhan; Director General Sports Council, Saleem-ur-Rehman; Secretary Sports Council, Naseem Javed Chaoudhary; SSP Jammu, Tejinder Singh and other senior officers of various Departments.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged the sports authorities to play an active role in promoting fitness among people. Emphasising high need for promoting sports culture in India, he said that desired results can only be achieved by developing a positive and conducive sports ecosystem.
Rijiju said, “The Government of India is doing the needful to provide world-class facilities to the athletes in Jammu and Kashmir.” He also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 'Fit India Movement' which the PM launched on the occasion of National Sports Day.
The Minister informed that GoI is going to organize Winter Games 2020 soon in Kashmir. He also announced that capacity building training programme will be conducted for PETs, coaches and groundsmen of J&K.
Other important announcements made by the Minister included coach development programme for identified youth of J&K, setting up of water sports academy at Srinagar, residential sports schools in J&K.
Students of different schools presented various sports activities like Judo, Karate, Gymnastics, table tennis etc.
Later, in RS Pura the Minister also inaugurated construction of CFC building at Chakroi with estimated cost of Rs 50 lakhs and sub centre Chak Mullo with an estimated cost Rs 15 lakhs.
Rijiju also visited Girls Higher Secondary School Chakroi and watched Kabaddi and Volley Ball tournaments and interacted with the players.
