ISM organizes seminar on diabetes in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 21: Indian System of Medicines on Tuesday organized a seminar on integrated approach for prevention and treatment of diabetes.
The objective of the seminar was to highlight the role of AYUSH system of medicines in prevention and treatment of various diseases including diabetes.
Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, Director ISM Mohan Singh, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Nodal Officer ISM Dr Iftikar Gazi and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC Bandipora asked the concerned department to launch an awareness campaign across the district especially in rural and far-flung areas regarding the alternate medicines.
He said Bandipora district especially Gurez Valley has rich diversity of flora and fauna, thus forming the backbone of Unani medicine which is being harnessed to promote the place as a herbal tourism destination.
The DC said several wellness centers under AYUSH have been established in the district and efforts are being made to establish AYUSH Research-cum-Wellness centers in the district.
He directed the ISM functionaries to take the AYUSH system to people in a missionary mode so that its benefits can percolate to people especially to those living in far flung and inaccessible areas. He said AYUSH system of treatment is not a new thing and has a rich history and tradition which needs to be restored.
The Director ISM, Dr Mohan Singh highlighted the potentials of Unani Medicine in public health and said that it can treat many diseases effectively.
Dr Singh said that the government has introduced various schemes for promotion of Unani medicines in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the department aims to establish a 50 bed AYUSH hospital and Research-cum-Wellness Centres in the district.
Nodal Officer ISM, Dr Iftikhar gave details about the achievements of AYUSH Mission during this fiscal year, he said that there is tremendous response from the people to avail the benefits of AYUSH system of treatment.
